This article is dedicated to a great friend of mine – she knows who she is – as she is a great Star Wars fan.
I love this quote so much and really rip into people who say to me “I will try”. You cannot try anything. You either do it or you don’t do it. Anyone who says to me that they will try is a clear indication that they are not going to do it. How many times have you invited someone to a party and they say they will try to make it and you know damn well they are not going to be there.
To try something is to do nothing. “I will try” is as weak a statement as you will ever hear, so please don’t ever say it – certainly not when I am in earshot. We all have to be so careful about what we say to ourselves, as we all spend a large percentage of our time talking to ourselves, so what we think and what we say will have a massive impact on what and who we become.
To be successful in life – in anything you do – you need to make a solid commitment, and to verbalise it to someone you trust who will hold you accountable is the best way to commit. Making a decision to do something and then having the discipline and commitment to do it is what really counts. And you need to stick to it, no matter what.
So lets focus on the DO as that is what really matters. You can do anything in life you want to do. You can be anything you want to be. The only limitations are those that are in your mind and they are usually based as a result of what you have done or achieved up to that moment in time in your life. None of us can get from where we are to where we want to be with the same mindset that has got us to where we currently are. Look at who you spend your time with. Look at who you are taking advice or getting help from. Are they people who truly support you, people who lift you up and tell you “You can do it” or are they people who constantly drag you down, and tell you to stop having visions of grandeur. We do become a product of those we spend time with so please be careful who you spend your time with.
So how do you change your mindset? Because you cannot get from where you are to where you want to be with the same mindset, you will need help. You will need a coach or mentor – whether you are in business or not. Find someone who is where you want to be, someone who has proven success. It is vital to check the credentials of anyone you “employ” to help you. So many people don’t do this and I have seen many who have spent thousands and got nothing of value, so choose carefully.
You can be whoever you want to be, you can do whatever you want to do. Just Believe in yourself
