LIFE IS BUILT ON THIN THREADS

I posted an image on linked in this week about people not crossing our paths by accident, it happens for a reason. Life is built on so many thin threads, so many things that so easily could not have happened. How many of you believe that?

Think back to events in your lives. How you met your life partner, how you started your business, how certain events in your life came about, and you will understand. A lot of these events would not have happened if you had not been proactive in helping them to come about. Our minds are very complex. We will never understand exactly how they work and how events in our lives happen. They just do and we have to believe that this is how life works.

If it has happened to me, it will have happened to you. I look back to events that led me to starting my own business in 1987, and there are so many things in the lead up that could so easily not have happened, going back 8 years prior to that. It started with how I met my wife Denise in 1979 as she was instrumental in me starting my own business up. How we met – very thin thread, how our relationship developed – very thin thread, the location of the first house we purchased – very thin thread.

Within months of moving in to our first house, we met a couple through Denise running Pippa Dee parties. They lived 2 streets down from us and became good friends of ours, and Barry ended up being my business partner of 19 years. Barry and Cavell introduced us to another couple who introduced us to a network marketing business and it was through this that I met a number of people who were a big part of how I started my Advertising Agency. It was also where I was introduced to a personal development programme that helped me become the person I am today, and taught me how to run a business properly – 6 years before Barry and myself set the business up. I learned how to develop a positive attitude and always look for the good in everything, and this was instrumental in me being given the opportunity to set up a conventional business which I took from concept to sale over a 30 year period of time. How I ran the business and how I steered it through 3 recessions and a number of industry changes had everything to do with what I started to learn through the personal development programme in 1982 and still learn from today.

So many thin threads along the way, and there will be so many thin threads to come. Pretty much every strong relationship I have with those I spend so much of my time with – in my personal and business life –  all have their own stories of thin threads that led us to meet. Our relationships are so important to our business and the people we become, so choose wisely as instead of a Knight in shining armour, you could well end up with an imposter wrapped in tin foil.

My life and business experiences are what I use to help business owners build a better business, and move them from where they are to where they want to be. By having a better business, you will be able to build a bigger business. You are part of the solution. I focus on the working ON side of your business, as this was a big part of my business success, and is vital to the success of any business.
